About the project

 

  Many aspects of reality run before eyes of human. All them together become runspect. One of them is spatial aspect.

 

   Since ancient times till now people consider the world in spatial aspect that led to creation and extensive use of maps. At the same time human vision of the world has been gradually extended. Huge amounts of spatial data exist today not only for Earth, but for other planets and celestial bodies. A lot of people prefer to look at the data when it presented in a map like manner. For that reason, number of companies offer varies programs and maps to assist with that. These products are known as Geographic Information Systems (GIS). (Technically the word “geographic” isn’t accurate in general when these systems deal with other planets.)

 

  This site provides you with a way to explore a big amount of spatial data for Earth and other planets. It features global access, high level of details and fast and flexible navigation over those worlds. You can identify interesting places and get deeper understanding of differences as well as some similarities between Earth and other planets. Author of this project created sets of programs and compilations of spatial data, designed them the way to help accomplish your exploration task perfectly. The project is named Spatial Aspect. All these products are provided to you for free. Author hopes that your journey over all worlds will be surprisingly fun, fruitful in knowledge and interesting.

 

  Which worlds you can explore, using Spatial Aspect products?

  Currently author prepared data collections for Earth, Moon, Mars, Venus and Mercury, which are represented in number of top-level maps.

 

  In which modalities and kinds the data represented?

  First, for all worlds elevation modality represented, which also is known as Digital Elevation Model (DEM). Programs of the project have rich number of features for work with these DEMs in particular.

  Second, all planets have vector layers representing nomenclature features, which were assigned by International Astronomical Union (IAU).

  Additionally Earth has vector layers of water resources, including oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, canals and stream network.

  Also Earth has variant of DEM, which includes bathymetry representation.

  More than, Earth has data for land cover modality, known as Global Land Cover Characteristics (GLCC). In particular Olson Global Ecosystems (OGE) data is provided.

  Also all collections include predefined regions of interest, which point to main features of respective worlds, including also systems of quadrangles for all worlds outside of Earth.

  The data representation can be extended in future by adding other modalities of data such as albedo, which currently exists for Moon.

 

  Which programs you can use with these data collections?

  First, there is a mainstream program: Spatial Aspect Explorer. The program can represent vector layers over background of raster data in different modalities. You can see examples of rendering maps by the program in the gallery.

  Second, there is Spatial Aspect Viewer. The program works only with raster data in different modalities, and has a number of additional features such as: printing raster maps, export data in standard format, extended set of supported mapping projections and comprehensive help system.

  Third, there is Spatial Aspect Map Locator. The program assists users in tasks of installation map data and provides convenient way for launching installed maps.

 

  Which technology used in products of Spatial Aspect in respect of enhancing exploration abilities?
